Brighton up my day!

Me again, catching up for the week-without-the-computer, so I am going to fill you all in on our day trip to Brighton (the seaside!) and some of the other happenings over here.

First, we saw our first show for Shakespeare class at the Globe! The current Globe is a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse on the south bank of the River Thames which was destroyed by fire in 1613. It's absolutely gorgeous and was a real treat to get to see "The Comedy of Errors" there! We got groundling tickets, which means we stood in the center of the circle for the performance. I definitely will find some more comfortable shoes for next time ... because 2 and a half hours is a long time to stand still.

Southwestern at the Globe!
The show was amazing- the entire audience enjoyed themselves.

And then it was off to Brighton! The train ride was about 55 minutes, not too bad. We were all very excited to get to see the water & wander the city! It is a huge tourist attraction, as the city itself is adorable and the pier/seaside is a fun place to visit. We also got to visit the Royal Pavilion which was utterly gorgeous, but we weren't allowed to take pictures, so alas.

Our first glimpse of the sea!
Except the U.K. doesn't believe in sand - it was rocks. And they hurt.
Wheeee!

Apparently, we were over-dressed!
Here's the outside of the Royal Pavilion. Gorgeous, isn't it? I wish I could have gotten pictures of the inside, as it was even more gorgeous than this!
Afterward, we were absolutely starving so we trekked Brighton some more until we found a fun little pub with delicious burgers. It was an excellent life choice.

After grabbing a bite to eat, we hustled ourselves to, arguably, one of the main attractions in Brighton - The Pier! It was adorable. I kept waiting for an old time-y couple dressed up in their Sunday best (complete with a parasol!) to waltz down the pier for some candy floss (cotton candy) and to soak up some sun. There were games, attractions, food, rides, the works! We spent the rest of our time in Brighton there, it was just so delightful!

Aaaaaand so it begins.
The loop-the-loop that was too intimidating/expensive to ride
Goin' crazy on arcade games
And this was only a MEDIUM!
I won this duck. His name is Marigold.
Brighton was so very exciting, and I think the entire group had a great time.

Tyler and I went to the Cinema, as well (movie theater), which is nothing like it is in the U.S. It's more expensive, I'll say that much, but the nice lady at the cinema we went to let us use our Southwestern IDs and get the student rate, which was just peachy of her, I thought! Going to the movies in the U.K. is definitely more posh and more of a big deal - people dress up, it's in Leicester Square, so a lot of premieres happen there, and the theatre itself was fantastic.

Snacks for my tummy!
Isn't it fantastic? The lights changed colors and the curtain pulled back for the show! It was very fun.
Also, Tyler and I went to check on prices for Wicked tickets and Billy Elliot tickets - we saw Wicked last week and we're going to see Billy Elliot this Thursday! I'm so excited! ALSO - we get to see Les Miserables in 2 weeks for Theatre class! I'm definitely getting my fill of musical theatre while we're here. :)

WICKED!

That's all for now! xoxo!
